The Ultimate Romantic Retreat

The historic Hoopoe Farm Cottage was built with stone and handmade bricks nearly a century ago. It has been lovingly restored to maintain its historic character while ensuring comfort. Local farm stone, Spanish reed ceilings, a cozy wood-burning fireplace, and antique oak furniture create luxury and comfort.

Ideal for couples, Hoopoe Farm Cottage is a romantic retreat for a weekend getaway or longer stay. We can also add a cot or single bed for children. The cottage is fully equipped for self-catering and is pet-friendly.

The open plan living room/kitchen features double glazed sliding doors opening onto a wide stone wrap-around veranda. This seamlessly merges the comfort of the cottage with the spectacular views of the imposing “Vulture cliffs” that gave the farm its name. The kitchen has a gas stove, oven, fridge, microwave, kettle, and toaster. A world-class Charnwood stove provides warmth and ambiance next to the dining room table. The bedroom features a queen-sized bed, dressing table, closet, and hair dryer. Superior 95% goose down summer and winter duvets provide both extravagance and comfort. In the bathroom, you find a walk-in shower and deep vintage cast iron bath in which to relax and indulge yourself.

The veranda has a built-in braai along with another table for eating al fresco. A KolKol wood-fired hot tub adds to the romance. The open plan living area and outdoor space is perfect for relaxing—a book in one hand and a glass in the other. Air conditioning, bathroom heaters, electric blankets, and outside built-in braai add to your comfort.

Hoopoe Cottage is named for the African Hoopoe that is a common sight on the farm.

Please note that you must travel a 2 km dirt farm road and cross a low river to access the cottage.
